For the sake of posterity, I thought I would record everything that has broken since Harrison was born:

  1. One Bedside lamp in our bedroom -- still have to get one.
  2. Overhead light in the hallway -- now fixed
  3. Leak in kitchen sink -- now fixed
  4. Toilet overflow, with three broken tiles as a result -- still have to find one
  5. Tires for the beetle
  6. Battery on the beetle (Yes, in the hospital parking lot). And of course, it needed its 100K checkup.
  7. The transmission on the honda (Took 3 mechanics, but they finally resurrected it)
  8. The cat...she passed away
  9. The freezer, with a full 3 months of prepared food. Had to throw it all out -- all that work.
  10. The radiator on the honda (just noticed this -- hoping its just the upper radiator hose.)
  11. The cigarette lighter on the honda...Fixed. Not for smoking, for power for the GPS.
  12. The hard drive on the laptop. Luckily it was work's laptop, and they fixed it
  13. The crib came with the wrong size crib rails. they are working to fix it.

At least Harrison and Gayle are doing well!

Seriously, you gotta laugh...

Yup, its been awhile. OB appt today. I was very late for it, though gayle was on time...I left only 5 minutes after her, but took a different route....and hit every light, and every traffic jam.

Anyway. The OB said that Jr was now pointed head down, as he should be. However, gayle has not yet started to dialate, so she's not near labor. There is some slight concern, because the baby might be getting quite large now (Gayle gained 4 lbs in the past week). I say "might be" because they're not sure if its all water weight, or if its baby weight. They are saying that they may not let her go to 41 weeks, and might induce just after her due date. They'll keep an eye on her cervix. We'll see. The doctor did say we shouldn't leave the DC area. I had been thinking about taking a day trip this weekend...

baby is 38.1 weeks old now.

Your baby has really fattened up. She likely weighs between 6 and 7 1/2 pounds now (boys tend to be slightly heavier than girls), and she's probably between 19 and 20 inches long. She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test with your pinky! Her organs are fully developed and in place, but her lungs and brain — though developed enough for her to function now — will continue to mature right through childhood.Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If your baby is born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)

Despite medical advances, there's still no way to know for sure when a woman will go into labor. You may not be as late as you think, especially if your baby wasn't conceived exactly when you thought (this happens more frequently when your due date is based only on the date of your last menstrual period and you haven't had an ultrasound in the first half of your pregnancy). But even with reliable dating, some women still have prolonged pregnancies, and experts don't really understand why.

Ouchy. Gayle and I were making dinner last night. She went to go drain the noodles, and some of the boiling water splashed up, and hit her rather tender tummy. It was extremely hot! she actually got a welt, and a blister. We decided not to go to the hospital...it wasn't bad enough. Though I did encourage her to go if she was concerned. We weren't too worried about junior, cuz he kept moving.

She really does need to be careful! And obviously, I'll be handling the hot water from now on.

In other news, Gayle has a work shower tomorrow. I'm going. We also bought new shoes for our car (tires). And this Friday we have another dr's appt. And we have our appt with our fetal heart specialist NEXT friday...

Wow, 33 weeks today. We went in for another sonogram on Friday to see if Gayle was really suffering from BBS (Big Baby Syndrome). Everything looks normal. Except....As we were on our way out the door, the nurse throws Gayle in a private room, and grabs me out of the doorway. we both start freaking out. The doctor comes in a moment later, and says that he noticed that Junior appears to have an irregular heartbeat. He thinks it is probably nothing, but now we're to go to a fetal heart specialist just to be sure. So now Gayle is going to call to make an appt with another specailist. I think it is probably overkill, and a case of TMI (Too much Information). But, what the hell, insurance pays for it; we might as well get it checked out.

I had a nice father's day. Gayle bought me a three-month subscription to Netfilix. And I bought both of us new sunglasses. I also played the geek, and picked up a new boardgame that I've been wanting to play for awhile -- I last played it years and years ago... I doubt that gayle will like it much, but you never know...

This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds and measures 17.2 inches from the top of his head to his heels. His skin is becoming less red and wrinkled, and while most of his bones are hardening, his skull is quite pliable and not completely joined. This will help him ease out of the relatively narrow birth canal.
